HAYWARD -- In what police called a brazen display of larceny, a bold thief entered a cell phone store Thursday night and used a set of wire cutters to steal an iPhone that was on display in the business.
The robbery took place during business hours and just before 6 p.m. at the Parrot AT&T store in the 24000 block of Santa Clara Street, Sgt. Mark Ormsby said.
A store employee told that police the suspect walked into the business, approached a cell phone display and pulled out a pair of wire cutters.
He then snipped a retractable cord in half that attached the phone to a wall inside the store.
When the employee confronted the suspect about his actions, the suspect simulated he had a handgun by reaching into his waistband, Ormsby said.
The suspect then ran out of the store with the stolen iPhone.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his 30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, 180 pounds with black hair and short chin hair. He wore a black baseball cap, black framed glasses with clear lenses, a white T-shirt, black jeans and white high-top tennis shoes.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact police at 510-293-7034.
