Google launches Project Link, will build fiber internet...

Google is announcing a new initiative today to help spread internet access across the globe. Through its new Project Link, Google is beginning to build fiber networks in developing areas. Its first network has already been completed in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Google says that existing internet service providers in the area will be able to tap into that network, allowing internet access to reach more people and operate on a more reliable connection. It's unclear whether ISPs will have to pay to access Google's fiber network or if Project Link be a charitable endeavor, but Google says that its aim will be to prime cities for growth down the road.
