Today Nokia unveiled the latest entry to its steadily growing Windows Phone lineup, the Lumia 625. With its 4.7-inch display, the entry-level smartphone is intended for those on a tight budget who want the Windows Phone experience on a big screen - in fact, it's the largest Lumia to date. Priced at €220 (under $300) before subsidies, the Lumia 625 is one of the least expensive smartphones offered by a major manufacturer, but there are some drawbacks to having such an affordable price tag.
While the idea of a larger Windows Phone device may be nice to some, the IPS LCD display features a resolution of just 800 x 480. Inside, the Lumia 625 is equipped with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of on-board storage plus microSD card support. In comparison, the recently released Lumia 928 comes with a 1280 x 768 AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, and 1GB of RAM. A 5-megapixel rear-facing camera is also included with the Lumia 625, although it does not utilize Carl Zeiss optics like the company's high-end Lumia 925 and Lumia 928 smartphones.
The polycarbonate rear casing of the Lumia 625 is interchangeable and will be available in orange, yellow, bright green, white, and black.
Nokia's Lumia 625 will be available starting the third quarter of this year in China, Europe, Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. A North American launch has not been announced.
